How can we possibly tell their stories without including everything that lead up and came from their experiences. History is not there for you to like or dislike. It is there for you to learn from and if it offends you, even better because you're less likely to repeat it.
If we erase all references to anyone associated with slavery or misdeeds of the past doesn't erase the relevance of Harriet Tubman, Rosa Parks or Dr. King?
