Newsman @WSJ. Just a lad from Leeds with a lust for markets, economics and history. My views, you're welcome to them. Fans say 'quite foxy and devious'.

I rdon't want to pile on about the Bloomie Gives Everyone a Million thing, but I am fascinated by the fact that, totally disregarding the maths, it *sounded intuitive* to them. Makes me understand the wealth inequality debate more to know some people think that seems plausible.

I can understand why the anti-billionaire-shakedown people seem like monsters if your starting point is that liquidating one middle-ranking plutocrat could give everyone a life-changing amount of money.

Those aren’t any two people though. They are part of elite media institutions that have a reputation of factiness & condescend other peoples mistakes via things like fact checking.

exactly. they WANTED it to be true. she said "it's disgusting". She had her presuppositions and didn't do the most basic of calculation to see if her view mapped on to reality. These are largely the ppl who support bernie / democratic socialism.

Empirical studies consistently find that people significantly underestimate the extent of inequality, and that correcting these perceptions tends to increase support for redistribution on average https://www.hbs.edu/faculty/Publication%20Files/Hauser%20%20Norton%20(2017)_5b0d07bb-f8d6-4edc-bddc-434ef6cd930e.pdf …

This empirical study indicated that wealth inequality may be a very natural byproduct of a wide spectrum of innumeracy
