Heparin (10-22 million doses/yr in US) is derived from pig intestines. With the ASF outbreak in China (where approx 60% heparin is currently sourced), consumers will soon learn about other important products from animals...beyond pork chops!

Happy palindrome day, whether you write the date DD/MM/YYYY or MM/DD/YYYY or even if you put the year first for some weird reason. 02/02/2020 is the only such date this century. The last one was over 900 years ago, on 11/11/1111. SO DON’T WASTE IT.

"Framing cultured meat as “clean" belittles the important role ruminants play in global ecosystems & food security. Overplaying the role dietary choices play on GHG emissions distracts focus from the much larger source of GHG, the burning of fossil fuels."

Musing with a friend on the quackery and hype claims. We saw all this with --people misuse sequence matches, flogging hypotheticals, using non-peer review routes... We told you about it. Nobody cares until it's medical though.

Skimming social media sharing this, I'm left wishing/wondering if for 'controversial' preprints the 'previews' generated for social media could be watermarked 'Disputed finding' so this shows any time they're shared. (Also for retractions? There will be issues making the call.)

Anti-GM activists say GM crops increase chemical use & don't increase yield. Here's what a Kenyan cotton farmers says about Bt cotton. It reduced pesticide applications from 12 to 3 per season & non-Bt cotton yields 500-600kg/ha compared to 2500kgs with Bt

You can’t drop out of the department chair search after we already sent you a rejection. We need to count you in our applicant pool to make it look like we didn’t fix the search.
