This is exceptionally helpful. I was also looking ahead to colors and mulling over how to approach that.

I work traditional and I watercolor my stuff now. Used to use copics. But if you're wanting to color digitally the best comics colorists in the business are on Twitter.
@TBonvillain is my favorite. She might be willing to steer you in the right direction.2 odpowiedzi 0 podanych dalej 1 polubiony -

I've got an old Wacom tablet, but every time I've tried to use it I feel like a 5 year old with crayons and I unplug it in frustration. I'm most comfortable with watercolor pencils and have been looking into copics. Vax is a lot of dark shades, so this will be a challenge.

Oh yeah, Tablets are hard for many people unless you really stick with it. I used to draw traditionally and scan for painting for about 5-6 years before I finally made myself get comfortable with tablet linework.

My tablet is like 10 years old. I want to use it SO BADLY but I have no idea what I'm doing and the lines are so Microsoft Paint-esque I just give up. Any good suggestions for a decent tutorial? At the very least I'd like to learn. I've seen so many and it's rather confusing.

I mean first off, is the tablet working like it should with age? MS paint lines could be partially that, or incorrect pressure settings. Drawing on a tablet is no different than on paper besides the eye-hand position disconnect.

It's harder to be accurate and feels more slippery but that's about it. I can't think of any tutorials for it specifically, I honestly just forced myself to keep doing it until my brain learned.

I mean, I'm chalking it up to 90% user error, but it was given to me by a friend who gave up art, sadly. It wouldn't surprise me if it was actually toast and I just didn't know

Do you have an example of something you did digitally? Also what are you using to line with and what brushes are you using?

I'll have to fire it up when I get home. It just makes me cringe cause the sketch is just basic line work and it looks like when I started at age 12. It actually makes me wither up like a dead bug.

Chances are you'll just have to do digital work A TON to train your brain to connect where it needs to. I'd advise doing a bunch of basic drawing exercises, Peter Han style, to help with that. (which will also improve your drawing confidence in general)

I'm going to have to, yes. Some of the color work I've seen digitally just blows my mind and I'm all about delving into it but man. This tablet is giving me fits. Maybe I should just put it to pasture.

As long as it's only because the tablet itself is fucked. :P
