This is exceptionally helpful. I was also looking ahead to colors and mulling over how to approach that.

I work traditional and I watercolor my stuff now. Used to use copics. But if you're wanting to color digitally the best comics colorists in the business are on Twitter. @TBonvillain is my favorite. She might be willing to steer you in the right direction.

I've got an old Wacom tablet, but every time I've tried to use it I feel like a 5 year old with crayons and I unplug it in frustration. I'm most comfortable with watercolor pencils and have been looking into copics. Vax is a lot of dark shades, so this will be a challenge.

Sennelier watercolors are working nicely for me. They have a great range of darker hues. But my trick for the Vax art I color myself is to use a Pentel pocket brush pen first. It holds the piece together. Nice and dark.

My biggest concern is losing details in his hair or upper shoulder area. As I finish Vex, I'm also concerned about her braid. Do you find the brush pens hold up the lines well? My current pens are old and dried up so I need to invest in a new selection.

If you look at my work you can tell where I rush or I'm too heavy handed with the brush specifically in the dark hair or braided dark hair areas. if you very carefully pencil the highlights in first and ink slowly the brush is great. I also use microns and Pitt pens tho.

I've used microns and been suuuper happy with them in the past. It's very odd stepping back into this after 8 years... void of nothing and then BOOM. So crazy. My acrylics are so old they've turned into lumps, which makes me sad. Regular watercolors and I fight, though. :P
