teslamotorsclub.com/tmc/threads/wh has some discussion of how Tesla did do battery swap for a bit but it wasn't really convenient or cost effective compared to the Superchargers.

I love the idea of interchangeability. I can picture every gas station on the highway replaced with a solar charging battery exchange plant. 👍
