While the GOP stands around and insults war hero's on a daily basis. 22 Vets per day commit suicide and Trump attacks a war hero every damn day.

I think "war hero" is used loosely in the McCain scenario. Fought and got captured. Lots of men fought - you could say they are all heros, but that may not have defined their entire future lives. Maybe "Viet Nam Vet" would be a more accurate name tag for McCain than "Hero".
