A particularly annoying trope: "No one cares about this." History is full of things people should have cared much more about much earlier.

technology; 24/7 TV news, cell phones, emails & the biggie, social media, allow info to spread faster & also for US to contact Congress.

The parallels are investigative journalism, mostly print. Like Watergate, it began w/ 1 or 2, but then others began digging & the story grew

Another parallel is the way the GOP initially responded, going into circle-the-wagons mode, until the evidence & political pressure built.
