No one in politics or wingnut media made this guy send bombs. Period. What they did, instead, was superheat the political environment and flood crazy bullshit into the information space so regularly that unhinged guys like this think they're being patriots by sending bombs. /4

  6. Sounds like whatever new polling Trump’s political team has been telling him about isn’t good for Republicans. (If true, almost certainly due to a predictable ebbing of the early-mid-October GOP bear market rally than due to the recent news....)

  10. At a fun book party for “Fight for Liberty,” a fine collection of essays by , and many others who are truly...fighters for liberty. A rare book party: the speeches are interesting, and (under the guidance of Kasparov, who’s used to speed chess) short.

Is this just a way of harmlessly (one hopes) humoring the president? It will be interesting to see the military orders, to learn whom the logistical support will be supporting, what the aviation assets and the military lawyers will be doing, etc.—and how much this show will cost.

Beyond all the whataboutism and both-sides-ism and learned sociologizing, we shouldn’t lose sight of one core fact: The president’s behavior is an utter and total disgrace.

There are many people who are, I think, patriots working in the Trump Administration. They aren’t personal servants of Donald Trump. They hold senior positions in the U.S. government. Whatever Trump says or doesn’t say, these officials can speak up and can speak for the country.

Kinda sad that just 15 years ago a bomb scare like this would've caused us to immediately suspect our international enemies and today we immediately assume it's our fellow Americans.

I saw Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer had a joint statement yesterday. But wouldn’t it have been better to have joint statements from Schumer and McConnell, and Pelosi and Ryan? And couldn’t Trump have invited Presidents Obama and Clinton to the White House for a joint appearance?

----> has a question for Hugh Hewitt: "If winning the decisive battle for the Supreme Court was the reason you held your nose and voted for Trump, will you start advocating for a less depraved alternative to lead the Republican Party in 2020?"
