So, we’ve lived this in our family — going in 1 generation from one of the poorest, least socially mobile, least healthy environments to one of the most fortunate. But don’t you feel many use these trends to dismiss efforts to improve things today? To diminish current suffering?

I’m glad my son will never lose family members to polio and smallpox the way my father has. But the Pinkers of the world cherry-pick data to ignore the uneven distribution of advances, especially dangerous at a time when fascism is on the rise globally again.

world doesn’t seem feel that it’s getting better, though these charts says other ways. Something is missing, something VERY important we are not tracking. Maybe we should also track quality of life ??
