Question: how many public or private pragrams/charities can be eliminated if companies, like Amazon and Walmart, paid a decent/living wage?pic.twitter.com/q0DeTEQP1H

Do you really think it's about wages? People live outside their means often. I've been around the world and that is one thing that is consistent. How many low income earners do you know with $1000 phones, multiple $200 shoes, cars more than their annual income?
-
Is financial irresponsibility a part of it, yes. Such behaviors can be a need for some gratification. in areas where rent is 1000+/mo but "competitive" wages are 10.50, to place the blame on these workers and not the richest families/ppl in the country and the world is foolish.
-
Good point, so is that the fault of the landlord or the corporations? In places like NY/CA/NJ, rent goes up, wages go up, rent goes up... these are symptoms of a disease called 'greed'. Cure that and I'll agree with you.
-
Both. Apt complexes are ran management companies who's main goal is to max revenue & employers that don't care for low leveled workers. But in most areas rent goes up, wages don't. Rent may skyrocket 30% but someone's job merit increase is 2%-5%.
-
Based on that information, you've proved my point. A company can never keep up with the greed of landlords. If they tried, the cost of goods would also increase.
-
How much is Jeff bezos worth? How much is the Walton family worth? .... It's both of their fault.... I get it.. the rich are desirable, look who's president lol. But we can't be blind to their negative, impacting decision...

How about you all just pay your taxes instead?
-
Dont know how much Bill has been doing tax avoidance but in his case I think the money is much better spent as it is than by paying taxes. So dont agree with the instead part.
-
How about doing both. Pay taxes and give to Charity.

@jeffBezos makes what Amazon’s median worker does in a year. For perspective, he makes $3,182 every second. Please spare me the Bezos Robin Hood theory to make a few billionaires feel good about themselves. - 1 more reply

Young’s Mentoring Program would be a great program to contribute to. We assist at-risk youth and their families in low income areas as well as provide the homeless with shelter assistance, job search/resumes, food and clothing! We need funding and a Van transport and deliver food
