Btw, I refer to games like Destiny, The Division, Anthem, and Warframe as "Massively Mingleplayer." One of my former coworkers coined this term and it's the best one I've heard to describe this new genre.

That's a fun term, I like it! Just to clarify, so I don't misuse this wonderful idea, what is the difference between Massively Mingleplayer and more traditional MMOs?

A traditional massively multiplayer game tries to get as many players on the screen as possible. A massively mingleplayer game specifically throttles the number of players on the screen via instancing to a design-intended number usually <20.

I like this term! Reminds me also of @danctheduck's term "mMO: miniature Multiplayer Online worlds" https://twitter.com/danctheduck/status/911261073684144128 … Although few of your example games hit the goals of mMOs...

Give me mMO: miniature Multiplayer Online worlds. Intimate not dehumanizing, Player gardens not theme parks. Friends not strangers.

I find that confusing! We used to call them MMOs!

        I like that a lot better than "bro-op looter-shooter"
