Not casting aspersions, but it's in the medias' best interest for this race to appear as close as possible. I don't have the data, but I'm guessing the Reagan-Mondale ratings weren't that high.

Look, everybody's been shouting about how its gonna look tight on election night but late-counted mail votes will trend blue, so Trump's plan is to claim victory early and then get uncounted votes tossed. DON'T HELP HIM by prematurely acting like he's winning.
