How do restaurant servers not qualify for UI? Even if there was some previously strange state specific law regarding UI and servers, they would be covered under the new Pandemic Unemployment Assistance.

They don’t get unemployment on tips which pretty much the only take home income. Most are not FTEs either. They need to go back to work to be able to support themselves. Period.

Fact checked: If they reported their tips then that income DOES count toward unemployment benefits. Period. https://www.twc.texas.gov/law_ch4_01.html#4.2.2.6 …

Clearly you’ve never been a server. NO ONE reports all of their tips. They already get paychecks that are $0. what about the cooks crew, hosts, expo, runners, bussers, dishwashers, overnighters & undocumented workers? Some of those rely mostly on Tip Out.1 reply 0 retweets 0 likes -

If they never reported the income then I’m sorry to say it sucks but I don’t know why they should be entitled to have that income count. Same as someone working under the table. Servers would still get some unemployment + $600 a week. It’s not mad money but it’s not horrible.

So then, we agree they have to get back to work to earn money to live, especially those who are undocumented.

Not if that causes a significant risk for spread. If you are specifically talking about Texas, they are one of the lowest per capita testing volumes in the nation and really need to boost it before they are in a good position to reopen restaurants. (1/2)

I live in Vegas so I understand the financial concern. We probably have the highest unemployment rate in the US & will take longer to rebound than most. But rushing back to work without proper testing is reckless. A 2nd wave would be worse for jobs than staying closed longer. 2/2

So that is a logical and level-headed response. Posting a list of businesses is not. Especially for a civil servant.

I didn’t say I was posting a list. Just keeping track myself so I can make an informed decision.
