Yes, conservatism is based on fear. But aren't these over-reactions to fear due to one's brain structure? Are there ways to overcome this? It's a HUGE societal issue; one that neuroscientists (such as yourself) will be grappling with for years. What solutions do you see?

stability would likely have the largest impact. If someone has food, water, shelter, healthcare, love, enjoyment and it’s consistent, they are not too afraid about losing those things if something changes. How to do that is the tough part.

I really feel the uncertainty is what’s driving this. If the govt would guarantee some universal basic income and outline a plan that ppl could look at and see “progress” they might weather this better.

Also, one of the major factors in this over-reaction to fear in a large portion of the US: The Psy-Ops from Foxnews, right-wing media, Facebook/Cambridge Analytica, etc.--all expertly stirring up frenzied reactions in vulnerable people. That must be addressed, and soon.
