I met with a VP of research at Genentech a couple years ago and it was astounding to learn that for a global drug maker, 95% of the profits are from the US market despite being 5% of the global population. And that's the sandbox we give them.

Yep. We just keep letting them do it.

I just returned from 5 years in Spain. We don't know how bad it is here.

In Thailand I asked about an Anti-fungal creme for scalp dermatitis. Prescription only in USA and $80 for 100 ml. In Thailand, 10 times the quantity for $4. Unreal.
-
Truly amazing that so many other countries have figured this out, but we still haven’t.

As a business owner, I try to explain that price and cost are barely related. "The Price" is how much you can get someone to pay for something. Period. In the US, we've made it easy for them to jack it up. It's practically government assisted price fixing.

Healthcare would become much more affordable with price limits across the board. A surgical screw is $2 in the UK. Same screw & maker is $200 in the US which becomes $225 to the patient. No wonder hospitals charge so much they're being price gouged too.

No lie. This is a medication I have taken for years and the co-pay is $25. It would be more than that without insurance.
