You and I clearly went to different schools. Where I went, science is not held up as sacred, but is instead regularly challenged to ensure that we can trust our data.

I took a degree and did a postgrad in science and engineering. Few of my contemporaries or I ever thought of ourselves as part of some secular priesthood. Sadly, that is how our successors have been encouraged to view themselves today - a consecration all too many have welcomed.

We can agree that that is not how it should be. I was fortunate to work with a lot of good researchers who welcomed criticism.
