The more telling aspect is that he was angry enough to say this and too much of a coward to actually fire her. Which was his prerogative. Instead he launched a smear campaign, with his personal lawyer at the helm, to try to justify something he could have done on a whim.

Maybe, and this is a stretch, he was trying to find her a nice date to the Ambassadors gala. Take her out, get to know her. But then she was removed from her position so I guess he couldn’t take her out. A shame!
