I woke up in middle of night last spring with excruciating pain from what my doctor later said was either ruptured ovarian cyst or twisted cyst. (I have endometriosis.) I didn't dare call 911 or try to drive myself to emergency room because of the cost.
I am so sorry that our system put you in that situation. You deserve better.

I'm a teacher. I have insurance. But, emergency room visit starts at $350. Ambulance starts at $1000. Instead, I crawled (I literally couldn't stand up from the pain) to my kitchen, reached for my prescription ibuprofen, took 2 of them, & crawled back into bed with a heating pad.

My wife is a teacher too and, while she has never experienced what you had to, I know that she waits as long as she can before seeing a doctor, because of the cost.
