Good morning Texas! You may recall that on Friday, Greg Abbott decided to no longer allow refugees to resettle in TX. If you live in TX and you’re as pissed as I am, call his office today and let him know how you feel. I'm confused over why a state even has a say in this?

I don't think that's it. They may, but there are no restrictions on where in the US one may live. The only thing I can figure is that maybe there are unfunded mandates to provide services to refugees, which Texas is now refusing to provide.

My understanding is that TX has the 2nd largest number of refugees settled after CA - and yes, refugees require $$. This is one battle that just doesn’t feel worth the outrage that it’s getting. There are 49 other states that have done far less than TX.

It's the third most populous state, and second largest. So by my calculation it's right in line with all the others. Why isn't the fed gov't providing assistance if they let them in (which they should be doing as these are refugees, not migrants)?

Idk the funding issues. I think that before we jump to outrage, let’s slow our roll. If you’re a Texan struggling to make ends meet & the govt is spending on settling refugees, I can see why you’d be angry/frustrated. Kind of a ‘secure your own oxygen mask before helping others’

Understood. Resettled refugees only receive about $1300 to offset rent/utilities costs for 3 mos. (Not a lot by way of assistance.) More so, there's no reason we can't help refugees AND ensure that Texans like you aren't struggling. Taxing Amazon or the uber-rich would do it.

I’m on your side! (Though, not a Texan)... optics-wise I worry about how much the media is blowing this up especially in a state like Texas that my organization is working hard to turn purple by supporting candidates like you! Keep it up!
