California"s background check system for ammunition has denied several police officers to buy ammo because of mistakes. So there's that.

The solution is to improve the accuracy of the system, not to throw the baby out with the bathwater.

Allow private citizens access to NICS. Just like FFL dealers. You wouldn't even need to make it mandatory. People would do it for peace of mind. Advice from a gun owner and Lifetime NRA member.

Most that don't, just don't trust the government. It's that simple.
