Homelessness isn't impossible to reduce, if not eliminate. First, our state needs to raise the minimum wage to a livable one, and we need affordable housing. Also, expand Medicaid. It's a big hill to climb, but we can get there.https://twitter.com/TexasTribune/status/1210733354275885056 …

You’re right, we can end homelessness. In addition to the things you mentioned, we need to properly fund HUD, including permanent supportive housing. We also need to expand Early Head Start to provide more affordable childcare, among others. We have the tools, if we use them.

Also, it should be noted that the number cited in the article is a HUGE underestimation. A recent study by local groups that work in homelessness found that there are 15,000 homeless children in Tarrant County alone each year.https://www.keranews.org/post/report-estimates-nearly-15000-children-face-homelessness-tarrant-county …

We have to do better for them, I don't understand how a session could come and go without making this a higher priority than voting on bad gun bills. (Actually, I do understand.)

Sadly, like you, I can understand how that happens too. It’s because we keep sending the wrong people down to Austin. Time to change things up. I’m cautiously optimistic that the people of Texas are fed up and want people who actually know how to solve problems.
