I have never understood people who do it. It must damage click rate and overall watch time so significantly. I don't know, based on what I think I know about the algorithms, logically it's really short sighted and might be a reason for channels dying.

Doesnt hurt at all, ive been told its been super helpful for people that may not get a twitch notice, because those fail regularly. I make each video its own thing tho, so its not like i just put up text saying to come to twitch..which i think is what YT is cracking down on.

Yes, it helps get people to twitch, but it must ruin click rate and watch time on youtube? That's where I think it's damaging, hurting the youtube algorithms in the long run.

Again, I might be wrong.. but all the videos I have seen talking about these things say that long videos, in turn increasing the watch time is gold. Logic would then indicate that too many 20sec videos will trash watch time and reduce youtube-promotion over time?!

Shorter videos would = better watch time cause there is less to watch, your % would increase. Your revenue would decrease however, cause there will be like.. no ads on those types of videos, only a pre-roll if even that. Doesn't really kill a channel tho.

% will probably be higher on the shorter videos, but do you think % beats total watch time? If that where the case, why did so many 1-4min animation video channels wither away a few years back? Seams like consensus is that the algho-changes killed all those channels back then.

Same thing happened to amateur music channels covering songs and music. 8years ago on my piano channel I would 100s of thousends of views on most of my videos, but in 2012/13 all of a sudden I had a really hard time reaching 10k, over night it seamed.

What i'm saying is i don't think total watch time funks up a channel that it deters everything, i think its really still case by case per video. I can make a link video, it may not monetize, but normal videos still do perfectly fine, they are not effected by my short form stuff.

I learned very little from my psychology class but one thing I did learn is that correlation is not causation. These issues may be more complex and not as black and white as the might seem.
