True. However, they also die the most. In a homicide society - remembering that according to WHO, Brazil is the world champion in numbers of homicides - it would be strange if the police were an example of serenity. P.S I'm not denying they might commit excesses.

Actually, killings of police in Brazil fell 18% in 2018 vs 2017, and overall homicide fell by ~15%. Just police killings of civilians went up, also by 18%. Some people call that "winning", but what a terrifying way to win. Also note that all this was before Bolsonaro took office.

You mean civilians carrying assault weapons, or innocents?
-
Both. Many of those killed are in gangs. But gangs in most countries don't confront police with assault rifles. Why r so many willing to die every year? u think there's a fixed X # of "bandidos" and once you've killed them all, crime will be solved? And who sells them the guns?

Actually the rate of police killings per 100,000 would be 89. About the same as the total rate in Caracas right now or Cali 6-7 years ago. Assuming about 6.5 million people live in Rio.

Another interesting tidbit. Of all tips received by the anonymous police hotline regarding organized crime in Rio, no less than 65% involve police-crewed gangs, the "militias". All other criminal factions add up to 35%. Rio's police is, literally, its biggest crime organization.

A small number of innocent people are killed by the police for unsuccessful operations. We are still killing little, since what we have in Rio de Janeiro are bandits!!!
-
Homicide itself is not the problem, but how inefficient it is to provide public safety. They end up creating an incentive for criminal organizations to increase the lethality of their weapons+tactics, and since the roots of the problem(the illegality)is not addressed,it’s sterile

And, in Rio, those are the official numbers. Their off-duty activity is even more prolific.

More and more of the poor and black are dying, and Lula still withers in a prison cell, with no material evidence of a crime! The poor of the world weep for him, while Bolsonaro continues to weaponize and legalize vigilante murders and extrajudicial massacres in the favelas.

Tinham que falar dos mortos por espera deum atendimento adequado por parte do Estado brasileiro. Morre-se, muito mais! They had to talk about the dead because of waiting for an adequate response from the Brazilian State. Die, much more!
