A homogeneous team is extremely comfortable, it’s important to acknowledge that. Introducing diversity to a homogeneous team will be experienced as disruptive. The new person is likely to be blamed for “breaking up the band”. If you’re aware you might be able to mitigate.

Naaah, users should not have ownership of their devices. The product belongs to the vendor.. that price you pay? Just a lease!

Honestly feel like going for the dead love ones thing is just such an easy way to get someone in the feels. To me, it was over the top and manipulative. If I want to future cry about dead friends and family, I'll just watch Coco again thank you very much.

Strong type systems, memory safety, automatic memory management and so on have had zero effect on software quality, because all the extra slack was consumed by new features instead

And iOS is worse. No depth. No whimsy. No character. It’s the ultimate expression of design austerity. I used to be excited about seeing what UI changes came in each new Apple beta. Now? Who cares - it’s all the same.

C++ evokes the same feeling in me that the city of Mumbai does: It is marvelous what dire existence human beings can get used to.

Btw: The game itself, 25% CPU. The main menu? 150%. The main menu is more expensive than the actual game.

I've been trying to figure out why the main menu performance on Warcraft 3 Reforged is so bad. It ends up the whole main menu is a web app running on Chrome. This thing runs worse than the actual game (likely because it's pegging an entire core of my CPU.)

idk what the right business model is for software but my only take is that nearly every subscription plan for a pure software product is gonna feel like a scam until we fix the industry's culture of constant code pushing with zero engineering rigor

MS-DOS or early Win32 also seem like pretty reliable bases to build off of

however this reminds me of some layout code i wrote a decade ago at _NAVIGATION_SYSTEM to pixel-perfect align some labels... (there was only one screen resolution at the time, slightly easier on the self-esteem than hardcoding half a dozen sizes)
