Last week’s episode of made me feel uplifted. Today’s had the opposite effect. So many tragedies in that young girl’s life, so many people who used her, so few who fought for her. And so many others whose stories are similar.

With all the dumb Easter puns I’m advertising, why has no restaurant or grocery store used “Eatster”? That one’s on me. Something for next year.

I can’t help thinking about the day a lady at the pool told me the girl and her sisters looked just like me. Maybe she knew something I didn’t. (Or maybe she just noticed a bunch of blue-eyed blondes.)

Today, told me I have a distant cousin DNA match with the same name of a girl I used to babysit. I grew up in a small town, so it’s possible, but wow, what a weird story that would be.

My three year old asked me to read “Abrakedabra” tonight. We have no such book, so I asked what that was, and she told me, “It’s what you say when someone has the best costume.” Okay.

In 1999, I realized I’d been wrong. Although we’d experienced great loss, Columbine survivors had to watch their tragedy unfold before their eyes, at the hands of people they knew, in a place they should have been safe. This, I thought, is the worst possible thing. (2)
