I read this week that both Corona and Virus are (as our language is) rooted in Latin. Translates as poison (ed) crown (of). The Latin speakers being the pesky antagonists of the Asterix strips.

Also, coronavirus (the virus family, of which the current SARS-CoV-2 is one) was named in about 1960 so it's probably just a subtle gag about that.

I don’t think it’s that strange when you realize that people knew about coronaviruses well before COVID-19. SARS and MERS, for instance, are caused by coronaviruses. “Corona,” I assume, means crown. So this just seems to be written by someone with some biology background
