Rapid dissemination of unverified findings can also be damaging. Basically, there is a difference between reporting findings to our peers, communicating them to the politicians/general public, and making policy. Mixing all into one pot is probably not the best approach.

To be fair, I don’t know scientists can be blamed for paywalls. We’re only just seeing moves to remove some of the disincentives to open access publishing. As for jargon - do we do that to obscure? Or do we do it because we need to efficiently communicate with other scientists?

It's easy- you pay the fees for open access or you spend it on something else (unless the grant stipulates it what annoying people like myself now advocate for). As for jargon- but then we all applaud that amazing keynote speaker who can put it just SO INCREDIBLY clearly...
