  I was 16 & the following month a brilliant film, The Strawberry Statement, was released about the Columbia University student protests of 1968. It made a huge impression on me just before I left school.

  I was home from my freshman year at Bates, working to save for the next year's tuition. I was just gutted that day. Trusting in the country after that seemed unwise.
