A year ago today, Susan Collins delivered a reprehensible, agonizing, victim-blaming speech on the Senate floor when she announced she would vote for Brett Kavanaugh. It was a moment that made me ashamed to be from Maine.
We had long suspected that Collins had stopped being our Senator and started being Mitch McConnell’s, but that moment confirmed it. My heart breaks for the victims whom she shunned at every turn, the Mainers she ignored, and the people whose trust she betrayed.
We can’t forget the pain and betrayal of Susan Collins’s Kavanuagh speech. And we need to use it as motivation to defeat her in 2020.
