The aim of the Every Student Succeeds Act was to return power to those closest to students – parents and teachers. The overwhelming bipartisan message was clear: states and local communities – not Washington – are best positioned to improve education for every student in America.pic.twitter.com/vxZyGYnQv1

Actually, ESSA a reauthorization of Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965, whose purpose was to increase achievement of children from low SES families by providing funds to their schools for PD & other programs. BTW, this does not mean giving that $ to charter schools!

That, madam, is an abject falsehood. #ESSA empowers you & your affiliates at @usedgov to micromanage state & local education policy thru the standards-based reform model. You would know, as you have hawked over state plans seeking to jettison #RttT reqs like #CommonCore testing.

The next reauthorization of ESSA will stand for the Every Student Survives Act, especially if deaf policymakers continue ignoring the cries of constituents who have suffered through mass shootings.

If you really believe the words spewing from this text...get rid of Common Core and let teachers teach! Have you ever tried to help a child figure out why 2+2 might equal 5? Get rid of all the unnecessary steps, processes that our children try to comprehend! NOW!

What you don't seem to understand is that parents and teachers and communities are unable to make decisions that suit their student population best. Why? The Federal Government cut education funding!

Not completely. There wouldn't be a Federal Education budget to cut if all funding was local.

Federal budget funds the federal bureaucracy and initiatives such as Common Core. It doesn't fund local education.
