I can’t afford 529! What are you doing for families like me with kids in public education.

I can't stand Betsy DeVos who is clearly on a mission to destroy public education, but I am not sure you understand what a 529 account is. We starting putting money into our kids' accounts when they were very young. My daughter just graduated from a state college with zero debt.

Monica made a relevant point. 529s are for people who have money to invest. Destroying the public option, while prioritizing policies that also enrich the wealthiest among us hurts middle & low socioeconomic status. DeVos is clearly not doing right by us.

My husband and I are both teachers. We are not wealthy. We made a choice to put money into 529 accounts for our kids' education. We did not go on fancy vacations. Our cars are 10+ years old. Sometimes, it's about priorities.

I agree it’s about priorities. We live frugally but we have four kids - one who lives with depression and anxiety. With insurance her meds and therapies eat up all our money that does not go toward paying bills. And I know there are many more like us.
