Every Texas legislator should read this article. (Especially the ones who say this could have happened with a baseball bat. Jesus.) Maybe then they’d actually do something to prevent another Uvalde. Or El Paso, or Midland & Odessa, or Santa Fe, or Sutherland Springs.

Family detention is a terrible idea. It won’t stop desperate people from seeking asylum but it will prolong their suffering and diminish us in the process. This & transit ban are cruel and get us no closer to resolving very real challenges. We are capable of much better.

New: a bill has been filed in Texas to prohibit counties from putting a polling place at a college or university. It follows another bill filed earlier that would require counties to put a certain # of polling places on college campuses depending on enrollment size.

This shooting at Cielo Vista is painful for El Paso, especially the families of those killed at the nearby Walmart in 2019. I dont know the details yet. But what I do know is that I love this town and I will do everything I can to stop this from happening again.

The government’s appeal — claiming that background checks don’t work — is ridiculous. Instead of taking the side of the NRA against victims of the Sutherland Springs shootings, the Biden DOJ should end the appeal and ensure that justice is served.

We lost our sister Erin this morning. A beautiful soul, a loving sister, daughter & friend. She had more than her share of challenges in life but kept her heart open to all throughout. We’re grateful to all who loved and cared for her. Rest in peace, Bear. We love you forever.

They were also powerless against lawmakers who consistently fail to act. “My oath as a doctor,” he told them, “means that I signed up to save lives. I do my job. I guess it turns out that I am here to plead. To beg. To please, please do yours.”

If Congress or the Texas Legislature had raised the age of purchase for an AR-15, her sister Tess might still be alive. (The Uvalde shooter patiently waited until he turned 18-years old, after which he bought two AR-15s along with 1,600 rounds of ammunition.)

Uvalde family members like continue to show the leadership missing from much of Congress & the Texas legislature. At yesterday’s hearing she showed the true cost of our failure to take common sense steps like raising the age of purchase for an AR-15 to 21.

The moment to stop Uvalde was right after Santa Fe. After El Paso, Midland-Odessa, Sutherland Springs, and Dallas. Instead, Abbott made it easier to carry guns without a background check. The moment to stop the next mass shooting is right now, and it begins by voting him out.
