While tomorrow is the one year mark of the Robb Elementary Massacre in Uvalde, today around 10 P.M. is the last time I saw Uzi, as I told him to go to bed, ruffled his hair and told him I loved him. I didn’t see him on the 24th as I left for work before the kids got up for school

We wouldn’t lead the U.S. in school shootings, maternal mortality and childhood diabetes deaths if we had free & fair elections.
Most Texans want something better.
Too many are prevented from voting for it.

Republicans will force Texans to “over-invest in a fading technology that will weigh on their electricity bills, contribute to a hotter planet, trigger more drastic climate action later and massively under-invest in the clean technology that will dominate the next century.”

Just got kicked out of the capital because they said I was too loud.
This is just another fucking attempt to slow and stop us.
2744 may have died tonight, but we will never stop!

One last thing — before it gets to the floor, it has to pass the Calendars committee.
Brett Cross, another amazing Uvalde parent, has provided the numbers for committee members below.

The bill is HB 2744.
It prohibits “selling, renting, leasing or giving a semi-automatic rifle with a caliber greater than .22 that is capable of accepting a detachable magazine to a person younger than 21 years old.”
It would have prevented the Uvalde massacre.

I haven’t met a stronger person.
Thanks to the leadership of Uvalde parents like Kim Rubio, a bill to raise the age to buy an AR-15 passed committee yesterday.
To pass the full House, our representatives need to hear from us.

We meet this moment with either cruelty & ineffective policies that have produced 20+ years of failure or kindness & common sense that helps both immigrants & America.
How we respond defines our country to our kids, to our fellow citizens and to the rest of the watching world.

Our hearts go out to those who lost loved ones in San Jacinto County last night.
AR-15s are designed for one purpose: to kill people.
We either accept their continued sale as the price of living (and dying) in America, or we do the right thing & limit them to military use.

Every Texas legislator should read this article.
(Especially the ones who say this could have happened with a baseball bat. Jesus.)
Maybe then they’d actually do something to prevent another Uvalde. Or El Paso, or Midland & Odessa, or Santa Fe, or Sutherland Springs.

Family detention is a terrible idea. It won’t stop desperate people from seeking asylum but it will prolong their suffering and diminish us in the process.
This & transit ban are cruel and get us no closer to resolving very real challenges. We are capable of much better.
