While tomorrow is the one year mark of the Robb Elementary Massacre in Uvalde, today around 10 P.M. is the last time I saw Uzi, as I told him to go to bed, ruffled his hair and told him I loved him. I didn’t see him on the 24th as I left for work before the kids got up for school

Republicans will force Texans to “over-invest in a fading technology that will weigh on their electricity bills, contribute to a hotter planet, trigger more drastic climate action later and massively under-invest in the clean technology that will dominate the next century.”

"Fossil fuels forever" is the rallying cry at Texas' Public Utility Commission and #txlege. GOP wants to spend tens of billions of taxpayer money to reward their biggest donors. Texans will pay a high price. FREE LINK: houstonchronicle.com/business/colum #energytwitter @HoustonChron

Just got kicked out of the capital because they said I was too loud. This is just another fucking attempt to slow and stop us. 2744 may have died tonight, but we will never stop! Texas fucked with the wrong parents!

BREAKING: State troopers just escorted @BCross052422 out of the Texas Capitol for chanting too loudly outside the House chamber. Cross, the guardian of Uvalde victim Uziyah Garcia, was advocating for #HB2744. Bill would raise the age to buy assault-style weapons

The bill is HB 2744. It prohibits “selling, renting, leasing or giving a semi-automatic rifle with a caliber greater than .22 that is capable of accepting a detachable magazine to a person younger than 21 years old.” It would have prevented the Uvalde massacre.

I haven’t met a stronger person. Thanks to the leadership of Uvalde parents like Kim Rubio, a bill to raise the age to buy an AR-15 passed committee yesterday. To pass the full House, our representatives need to hear from us. Find your Texas rep: wrm.capitol.texas.gov/home

“The Collin County sheriff told WFAA that there are multiple victims, including children.” We pray for the families as we continue working to replace those in power with leaders who value the lives of our kids more than the profits of the gun lobby. Only way to stop this.

We meet this moment with either cruelty & ineffective policies that have produced 20+ years of failure or kindness & common sense that helps both immigrants & America. How we respond defines our country to our kids, to our fellow citizens and to the rest of the watching world.

We do that, and we will successfully address both humanitarian and security issues and make the most of those who want to come to America not only to do better for themselves but to do better for this country.

President & Congress must rewrite our immigration laws; give real assistance to border communities; make the Americas our #1 foreign policy priority; end transit ban & other unproductive punitive policies; focus on safe legal pathways to work, join family, seek asylum

Our hearts go out to those who lost loved ones in San Jacinto County last night. AR-15s are designed for one purpose: to kill people. We either accept their continued sale as the price of living (and dying) in America, or we do the right thing & limit them to military use.

They waited 12 hours to testify for a bill that could save the lives of kids across Texas. If it had been law last year it would have saved their kids. This is selfless public service. Let’s follow their lead and have their backs. Reach out to your rep: wrm.capitol.texas.gov/home

There’s a lot left to do for the thousands of Texas kids in our foster care system, but signs of progress thanks to the tenacity of advocates like Yetter and public minded jurists like Judge Jack. Wish them continued success in forcing the state to take action.

Every Texas legislator should read this article. (Especially the ones who say this could have happened with a baseball bat. Jesus.) Maybe then they’d actually do something to prevent another Uvalde. Or El Paso, or Midland & Odessa, or Santa Fe, or Sutherland Springs.

Family detention is a terrible idea. It won’t stop desperate people from seeking asylum but it will prolong their suffering and diminish us in the process. This & transit ban are cruel and get us no closer to resolving very real challenges. We are capable of much better.
