There was no argument or even an option to resist being placed in this shackle when I was released after paying $53,700 bail. I am now on a curfew and was told that if I set foot out my front or back doors after 9 pm or before 6 am, I'd be taken back into custody. And also...

... the shackle HURTS. It is made of hard polyurethane and it is loose enough to rattle directly against my ankle bone but tight enough that if I adjust it so that it doesn't, it constricts my skin and literally wears a hole through my flesh. Fitness and work are painful.

In case y'all didn't catch that, I am forbidden from entering my own yard each night. I am not on probation or parole. I am presumed innocent.

I am required to check in via an automated phone call every Monday and Wednesday. It is 100% touchtone robo-call. No one actively monitors these calls, which means anybody who removes a cuff has a day's lead (more on weekends) on authorities.

Before Friday each week I have to appear in person at Multnomah County Justice Center. Since they're tracking me, this makes no practical sense. I arrive, get scanned, and literally walk in and then get told to leave. Only one person works that desk. Ever. He has weekends off.

This weekend lapse in supervision is a glaringly obvious weakness in this garbage program, and it is part of how the suspect in Kavanaugh's article escaped Oregon and the United States. ANKLE MONITORS DO NOT WORK FOR ANYONE WHO INTENDS TO ESCAPE BUT THEY COST $255/MONTH.

These shackles cannot be submerged, so I can never swim or bathe. They can't leave cell tower coverage, so neither can I. They are not adequately monitored. They are cruelly painful. They violate constitutional 4th amendment rights. They are ruinously expensive.

They must be charged for TWO HOURS twice a day. If I am without the proprietary cable and not near an outlet when it buzzes, I HAVE to get home within 60 minutes or I risk reincarceration. I AM NOT ON PAROLE OR PROBATION. I am out on bail and presumed innocent at this time.

If anyone wants to help, my gofundme can be found here. We are close to the goal (which doesn't account for the shackle costs, but we didn't foresee that, so...) and everything helps. Sparkle hard.https://www.gofundme.com/jve5am

I am currently actively pursuing answers from the state and Vigilnet both about my case. Stay tuned.
