Sir Iain Duncan Smith said on the Today programme that only 15% of people in the UK who start work at entry level rise above that level during their working life. He claimed this was the worst figure in the developed world. Both claims are incorrect.

Maybe I am being too rational here, but to push a country out of the biggest trading bloc in the world and take away the rights of millions of citizens to travel, work and live abroad in order to become more global is simply absurd.

  10. Brits in Spain for 15 years+ cannot vote in the UK, cannot vote in general elections in Spain, and now thanks to Brexit, cannot vote in EU elections either. It is now time for a government minister to introduce a public bill to fix this.

  11. Johnson is right to be concerned about the rise of protectionism around the world. That is why it is incredibly important to strike a deal with Europe, to ensure goods, services and – most importantly – people, ideas and medical cures are able to move seamlessly across borders.

No alignment, no ECJ, no concessions isn't typical tough talk at the start of negotiations. It is a government unable to break out of four years of unrealistic discussion about what we could achieve outside the EU. It seems another chance is about to be missed. 19/ end

  16. Here’s the thing about trade deals: they set out to achieve level-playing fields so that businesses in the trade area can freely sell to each other: without quotas & without tariffs. Ergo, Level-playing fields are a primary objective of trade deals.
