This is one of the best presidents we have ever had. We are trying to construct a more inclusive society. We are going to make a country in which no one is left out. Franklin D. Roosevelt Then along came republicans who now own it.

FDR is familiar in the image below, surely taken on the same day, but Art (Rube) DeGroff, also portrayed, maybe less so. https://ourgame.mlblogs.com/baseballs-first-all-star-game-4fcda47ecab2 …pic.twitter.com/9dJbKUXyie

Interesting that he played on a team named for a folk hero who stole from the rich and gave to the poor.

The same FDR that heaped praise on Hitler for the social programs he initiated in pre-war Germany... If only he would allow himself to look beyond the lying facade that hid the black heart behind the animal that is Hitler.

Lest we forget, Trump broke with tradition and refused to throw out the first pitch in 2017 (and 2018). And he calls himself the healthiest male specimen since Hercules. But frankly I'd rather see his tax returns than his four seamer.

Having played baseball in his youth, I wouldn't doubt he could throw a decent enough first pitch. But Trump knew he would have gotten booed out of the ballpark. And to be honest, nobody really cared about his breaking of this tradition. The least of the things he has broken.

Like Clinton he was quite charismatic & pragmatic i.e. on matters of race he'd create presidential orders to placate Black leaders like A. Philip Randolph and Bayard Rustin & then not enforce them as in the case of E.O. 9981.pic.twitter.com/CkOtkXy5x6

How was it explained why he threw from his car sitting down? Was the public curious? Or was this kind of thing the norm for FDR?

If I'm not mistaken his condition was a well known/unsaid secret. It was always assumed he suffered poliomyelitis, but his symptoms are consistent with Guillain–Barré syndrome (GBS) – an autoimmune neuropathy

Okay. I was just curious as I have always thought he was more discreet about his condition. Clearly that photo left him wide open for questions.

Polio was quite common prior to Jonas Salk's vaccine, just as during President Washington's day smallpox was prevalent. If you get a chance read up on the numerous diseases Washington suffered from. It's a wonder he made it to the age he did.pic.twitter.com/oW060XxmaQ
