Young Americans have no idea what a horrific year 1968 was.

It was brutal.
-
Yeah. MLK assassinated. Riots all over the country following that. RFK assassinated. Police riot in Chicago at the DNC. TET offensive. Mai Lai massacre. USS Pueblo abducted by North Korea, crew held hostage. Soviet Union invades Czechoslovakia. Riots in Mexico. Riots in France.
-
Those were the long & painful days of 1968. We survived then & we will survive & flourish now

-
As bad as 1968 was, America still had its powerhouse economy where good times raised all boats. I don't even want to get started on what that's like now, the top 1% owning everything and everyone else going nowhere. The 1968 flames were terrible, but they were under blue skies.

I remember it well. The spring and summer of 1968 were the worst. MLK. RFK. Democratic Convention. I was sure the world was coming to an end. But no. Remember that now as we prepare for Midterm elections.

Wow! The memories. So earth-shattering and formative. And then life goes on. Thanks for sharing. I listened to the Beatles, too, but by the next summer it was all Janis Joplin and Jimi Hendrix!

Do we have anyone even close to that quality around today?
-
We absolutely do Ray. But the problem is that the really amazing people are not able to participate in politics any more. Great people have integrity and a moral compass. That doesn't really fit in today's political world. You have to be extreme.
-
Seems to be the case. And one side is trying to bake in its advantage. I still have to think a majority of Americans are tired of this crap.

The best of the 3 Kennedy sons to make it into politics. Joe Jr. was supposed to be a super guy but I always like RFK.

I think, rather like MLK knew, Bobby knew. His eyes.

My hero Bobby Kennedy always in my heart
-
Me too. I had a picture of him in my classroom. (I taught History and English in Baltimore Md). One of the kids asked me who he was. I told him he was a good man who tried to help people. He told me his granny had one of him on her wall too.
