So much wisdom in his eyes. They look sincere but exhausted at the same time. As if they’ve seen enough for two lifetimes.

Lincoln has always been tied for best president for me (w/FDR) & in every image of him, you see his sincerity & wisdom, as well as the burdens he had to carry while saving our republic. The irony being: 160 years later, “his” party is ripping apart the very republic he died for.

Maybe. 160 years ago makes it 1858. 49 years old. The year he debated Stephen A. Douglas for a U.S. Senate seat (and lost). Got the Presidential nomination two years later. Could the photo have been associated with the debates ?

Many thanks. Happy to have that confirmation. But also interesting that that was what he looked like when he debated Douglas same year (photos of them on debate platforms are very grainy). Shocking how he aged over the next 7 years.

The left side of Lincoln’s face was much smaller than the right, a condition called cranial facial microsomia. You can really discern it in this photograph. It might have happened when he was kicked by a horse in his youth. What a wonderful face. Thanks, Michael.

What a real President looks like. He wasn't perfect and didn't worry about ratings, instead he thought of his fellow Americans. Can't help comparing to tRump as men and it's not even close on who's 'more Presidential?'

I always find it hard to believe that Lincoln was only 160 years ago. In terms of history, that isn't really very long ago, especially considering my life has encompassed 65+ of those years.

He looks so young! And almost carefree compared to the pictures of him during the Civil War. Way less anguish around the eyes, at least. Thank you for sharing!

No, @Broomblossem, 600,000 deaths were caused by Southern racists who sought to secede from the Union so the well-off among them could continue to subjugate dark-skinned human beings to enslavement, degradation, separation of families, denial of education, & impulsive murders.
