Amazing how much more understated the German surrender was compared to the Japanese surrender on the Missouri. A clear illustration of the difference between Ike and MacArthur. And look which of the two became president.

Ike did not receive the german surrender, it was Walter Bedell Smith. Ike refused to meet the nazis.

Smith went on to become Director of the CIA a few years later. Consummate Cold Warrior.

looks pretty good for 55. especially considering all the stress he had endured for the last four years. oh, and the smokes. lots of smokes. FDR was 63, but looked 83 in pictures toward the end.
