I wish younger liberals knew this history. Maybe it would temper their derision toward the "mainstream" media. Then as now, no force in society has done more to unmask the Right than journalists working for the big metropolitan dailies -- the NYT, the WaPo, the LAT. Grateful.

No, I mean fellow liberals, usually much younger than I am, self-styled "progressives" who are full of themselves and practically choking on self-righteousness, who take partisanship to extremes and who are as antagonistic to the press, in their way, as people on the far right.

The problem here isn't the liberals. The problem here is our journalists want access to this circus of a white house because the crazy generates hits which brings them job security. They see this as a cash cow. Woodward/Bernstein didn't care about access.

Nixon was a great President. These two and the rag sheet they worked for are not heroes. They allowed themselves, or were willing accomplices, to be pawns in a war to bring down a great man. Nixon was treated shamefully.

During nixon's term, the EPA, OSHA and the NOAA were all founded, Title 9 was signed, & the voting age was lowered to 18. Nixon believed in affirmative action and enforcing it with timetables and quotas, greatly increased funding for medicaid, medicare and......

And during that time, he lied and colluded and thought he was above the law. Of course, he's NOTHING compared to the Orange Man, but he was a shifty, lying bullshitter. And did some good things. But HE. WAS. A. CROOK. That's what got him in the end.
