I was just thinking what a fantastic follow you are on Twitter. Thanks so much for all you share with us. My grandparents went through Ellis.

Please: What was so special about this day that there were so many people? (I’m slightly embarrassed to ask...perhaps I’m missing something obvious?) Thank you!

A number of factors including a strong US economy and the liberalisation of immigration policies are just a couple..a little more comprehensive info can be found herehttps://www.google.com/amp/amp.timeinc.net/time/4740248/ellis-island-busiest-day …

photo was taken between July 4, 1908, and July 4, 1912 (or perhaps shortly thereafter), given the 46-star flag that his displayed.

Good reminder. I've visited Ellis since they restored it and think everyone should go. Your post makes me realize how differently I feel about my country now... since Nov 2016, way less naive... but it remains a fact: We are a nation of immigrants.

That was the year my hard-working Italian grandparents came from Italy--to Ellis Island. Thank you for your great historical tidbits, Michael! What a different attitude some have these days....pic.twitter.com/Z5Iap7E5US

Very cool. How quickly some forget how their ancestors became Americans. Forget the meaning of America.

Just about when my great-grandparents came through. I have yet to figure out the ships (they met in NYC on the street in front of Lüchow's Restaurant), or the specific dates. Their names were anglicized, so finding them is hard.
