Here is a marcinogram between Titanic and her sister ship Olympic, who was 500 miles away, trying to determine position as Titanic sinks. Part of my Titanic connection.pic.twitter.com/kH2JmXtOQI

And after Titanic sank the Olympic communicated with rescue ship Carpathia to decide whether Olympic should rendezvous. Decision was no bc Olympic was virtual mirror image of Titanic & concern was it would understandably freak out survivorspic.twitter.com/rjjH6xcbYd

My grandfather was an 18 year old telegraph operator working night shift in Newfoundland on that fateful night. He monitored all those messages. New York's response: "check operator for intoxication". True story.

I can imagine DJT in that situation immediately donning a dress, floppy brimed hat, lipstick and shoving everyone out of the way in his quest to get into the 1st lifeboat. Anyone agree??

Michael, have you been to the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic in Halifax? Remarkable museum, to include notable Titanic artifacts.

It's on my lifelong list of places to visit. People ask why on earth I want to visit Halifax. "They have a great museum w/ Titanic stuff & a bunch of the victims are buried there. Also they had a horrible explosion there during WWI" doesn't get me a lot of agreeing nods, hahaha.

Distress message today from US DEMOCRACY: We are sinking fast. So called President is unqualified, some say insane. Some passengers refuse to accept that ship is sinking. Yeah, it is as big of a disaster as the Titanic.

The greatest at-sea rescue of a ship's people in the US was the MS Princendam in fall of 1980 off Alaska's Southeast. I was the radio operator who got the ship's SOS back in my Coast Guard radioman days. A lot of people including hero pilots are still here in Kodiak AK.

I'll never forget the SOS messag. "Fire. Fire on the engine room." It was all Morse code which we typed as they sent. I remember that I didn't understand the letter combination that engine room had been flooded with "CO2". I thought I had missed typed the Morse code letters.

They phased out Morse code as message medium years ago. Too bad. A passing if a very reliable means of sharing info.
