I don’t know why I never realized he was just 63. I turned 64 yesterday.

Came here to say the same thing - never knew he was only 63. I always thought he was much older. Guess the presidency really does age you.

Especially when you have to shepherd the country through the Depression and a World War.

The same day my dad was liberated from Oflag 79 in Braunschweig, Germany. He noted FDR's death in his diary.

This reminded me of JFK and the confusion surrounding the removal of his body from Parkland Hospital, so I have a question - was there a death certificate issued by Dallas County?

Pictures of him at Yalta with Stalin and Churchill really illustrated how sick he was.

Being a paraplegic didn't help either. Life expectancy is lower for those afflicted

They should have performed a full autopsy on him. Odds are it would've confirmed (or refuted) the claims that have come since - that he was dying of cancer, multi-organ failure, had suffered past strokes and heart attacks, etc.
-
There was no reason to suspect foul play, so it would have been up to the family. I’d decline the full autopsy as well in that scenario, it’s really none of our business at that point.
-
Foul play? No. But egregious medical malpractice on the part of his docs. There are historical scholars who believe his slide toward death had began as early as 1940, and the American public should've at least been aware of his condition when voting for him in '40, '44.
-
Ok well I understand YOU want to know and all, but the law is an entirely different matter. It would have been up to his family absent signs of foul play.
-
No argument on that point, but it would've been far better from the perspective of history.

My father wept twice; once on April 12, 1945, and when my mother died. In our family, it was a traumatic event.
