Kinda thought that too. And was the pic taken at sea or at the harbor?

Photo was taken by Fr Browne, an Irish priest & photographer. He took a series of photos of Titanic while it was moored off Queestown (now Cobh, Co Cork) in Ireland. This was soon before Titanic made its way into the Atlantic.

No problem. Fr Browne's own story is very interesting as he was also a prominent World War 1 photographer. He was in college with James Joyce & of course he was a passenger on Titanic from Southampton to Cork.

think about it: people were willing to be treated like, or maybe worse, than animals just to get to our country. Would they today?

Those heavy dresses would have made swimming in that cold water even more difficult.

It was one of a series taken by Irish priest Fr Browne (who also took a large number of famous World War 1 photos). He took the photos when Titanic was moored off Queestown (now Cobh, Co Cork) in Ireland, just before Titanic continued out into the Atlantic.

The accommodations in steerage were said to be so nice, they must've felt their live had truly changed. The trip must've seemed like an unimaginable vacation.
