Great Kansan. Everyday when I cross the Missouri River after dropping the kids off at school, I see his name on the "Welcome to Kansas" sign. Mr. Beschloss... have you been to the Eisenhower Museum and Library? I have not and wonder if it is worth the drive.

Yes, the Eisenhower Museum and home ate definitely worth the drive. It contains artifacts from WWII and the Korean War including Klingers dress from MASH. If you like fried chicken stop at the Brookfield Hotel on your way into Abilene.
-
Cross dressing, fried chicken AND war?.... Count me in! Thx.

You provided my laugh for the day

7 heart attacks....

I think it was more like 13 if you count the smaller ones. I'd say he got about as much mileage out of that "ailing heart" as anyone could.

Curious if you know whether this posthumously published April '69 Reader's Digest article was Ike's last published work? Quite the essay to leave on.pic.twitter.com/HQANcoLZzs

President Eisenhower represented the best of a Republican Party that now no longer exists, having repudiated and soiled what it once stood for.

Eisenhower’s funeral was one of my first national memories.
-
Met the funeral train as it made its way back to Abilene with the casket. They don't do it like that anymore.

I saw Eisenhower in person in '63 or '64. My father worked for Santa Fe in CA & called my mother early one morning to say Ike's train was stopping in our city. She got me out of bed & we went to see him. He came out of the train, waved & said a few words to the workers & families

I remember hearing about Ike's passing on the radio during breakfast when I was in 3rd grade. Later at school, when I mentioned it to 3 of the teachers who had gathered in the large hallway outside the classroom, I was impressed with the impact this news had on them.

My great uncle played golf with him at Eldorado in Indian Wells in the late 60's. The desert is also where I met your parents, Michael in the early 90's. Lovely people!
