I was in two peace marches in the ‘60s. I never hesitate to tell young men that they owe their lives to me and my fellow protesters. We ended the war and, effectively, the draft.

I'd argue the protests definitely ended the draft, but not the war. They also helped elect Nixon in 68. Ending the draft allowed the war to continue until '75.
