Citizens United is another worst Supreme Court decision.

Thank you for sharing this tweet. The great thing about our country is we bare the scars of our transgressions on our constitution. The only true way to be proud of something is to know everything, the good and the bad. When we hide history, we all lose.

Truly a "dredful" decision. Yet, here we are under
@realDonaldTrump's America, living in a time when it's government policy to pronounce some of our fellow human beings of less worth than others. Shameful. - 1 more reply

Jeff Sessions will be headlining the White House’s all-day celebration of the anniversary

I do not understand why some Conservatives have tried in recent decades to rehabilitate Taney’s reputation.

The question answers itself

If a horrible decision like Dred Scott can ultimately be corrected, why not Heller and Citizens United?

The New York Times blunt summary of the Court’s holding at the time is chilling - “Negroes, whether slaves or free, that is, men of the African race, are not Citizens of the United States.”

They thought it would settle the slavery issue once and for all. It shows the problem with that kind of thinking.

The Supreme Court isn't always right, is it? The justices, at times, have a tangled way of thinking just so their own prejudices can be realized.

Little known fact, he was married to Francis Scott Key's sister and Taney and Key were good friends.
-
Ancillary little known fact: Key's grandson, John Ross Key, would fight for the Confederacy.

The author of the Dred Scott decision, Roger B. Taney, had a statue at the Maryland State House up until August 18, 2017. MD Gov. Larry Hogan who initially defended the Taney statue only relented to remove the statue in the aftermath of Charlottesville.https://www.washingtonpost.com/local/md-politics/md-senate-president-slams-hogan-for-fast-vote-to-remove-taney-statue/2017/08/17/41833b12-8390-11e7-ab27-1a21a8e006ab_story.html?utm_term=.e23ea0315ae5 …

That a statue honoring Taney was in place until 2017 runs a close second in awefulness to the Dred Scott decision itself.

I have Dred Scott's face emblazoned on my memory. But I have never seen the smug face who thought he could never be free. Interesting history lesson, this photo.
