After Vietnam trip, Walter Cronkite tells viewers that US is “mired in stalemate,” and "the only rational way” is "to negotiate”—causes LBJ to reportedly say that if he has lost Cronkite, he’s lost Middle America--50 years ago this week:pic.twitter.com/rvPqxWf6qC

Cronkite is more or less in a class by himself as far as anchors go, but to say that journalism died with him just isn't true.

I'm not having this discussion with you. It's clearly a waste of time.

No. I just don't want to spend my time "debating" someone who speaks only in sweeping generalizations and evidently doesn't read very much. You're only looking for confirmation.

I cherry pick from many sources. I don't buy everything put out by a paper, mag or site whole hog. Depends on the story. One has to be a discerning consumer of information. What do you read?

The #NeverAgain movement reminds me of the Vietnam war protests. We were losing our boys, friends and family. Do you believe we were successful then and if today's kids will be successful now with their protests? It feels the same.

Agree. Made a comment here the other day that I was glad the spirit of 68 was alive and boy was I jumped on, some really nasty. Lots of blocking. But, yes, these kids have it together and they can make a difference, imo.Don't forget Kissenger's dirty trick that kept us longer

It feels the same. There were people that scorned protesters back then (Kent State) but it didn't bother me then nor does it now. Parkland's kids are very bright and a credit to their school and community. Kissenger and Trump met recently proving only the good die young .

Isn't that the truth. I have always disliked and mistrusted Kissenger from the very first time I was aware of his role in govt. Sort of like the Seb Gorka of his day. Those Parkland kids are very much to be admired and supported.

Paris Peace accords leaked by Kissinger to CANDIDATE Nixon whose staff used Clare Chenault to talk South Viet Nam into NOT signing peace agreement leading to thousands more dead and ~6 more yrs of war.

Very difficult to make the claim that the Oct 1968 Paris negotiations would have come to anything. The North Vietnamese proved themselves to be quite adept at conducting peace talks with no resolution.

True. On the other hand, with out a doubt, sabotaging them took that potential option off the table.

And now we have Sean Hannity and Donald Trump engaged in a self-referential circle of tweets and propaganda.

Every single day, I miss Cronkite and grieve the fact that nobody rose to replace him. Because objective news reporting died.
