If not for Vietnam, LBJ would have been a great President. That simple assertion - he would not be the first president to lose a war - was the end of the Great Society because of the cost of the war. Straight Shakespearean tragedy.

He started up again. He quit as POTUS but on the flight back to Texas he lit up. His daughter took the cigarette and he grabbed it back and said something along the lines of men in his family don't live long.

Recently there was a movie about McCarthyist censorship of Hollywood Ten's Dalton Trumbo. The only major work not mentioned was TRUMBO'S SCRIPT ABOUT CIA ASSASSINATION OF JFK, EXECUTIVE ACTION (1973) That film starts out with a ref to LBJ's brief 1970 TV comment re JFK assassina

Really? So 80+ months of job growth, far beyond Bush, lowest unemployment in 10yrs, killed bin laden & others, saved auto ind & million jobs, equal pay law, lowered deficit by 2/3, more. Historians already rate Obama as 12th. U hate him, we get it, but thats just uninformed.
